Tommy Miah’s ‘Dhallywood Night’ was held in the United Kingdom for the first time, aiming to present Bangladeshi culture, cinema, and hospitality on the global stage in a new way.
The historic event was inaugurated on Friday by UK Member of Parliament and long-time friend of the Bangladeshi community Jeremy Corbyn.
The day-long celebration began in the morning at the Bangladesh High Commission in London’s Queen’s Gate. At a special reception hosted by Bangladesh High Commissioner Abida Islam, the winners of ‘Tommy Miah’s Hospitality Awards 2025’ were honoured.
Awards were presented in several categories, including “Culinary Queen, Women Empowerment Award” and “International Chef of the Year,” recognising the recipients for their contribution to spreading Bangladesh’s culinary heritage and hospitality traditions worldwide.
The much-anticipated Dhallywood Night took place in the evening at East London’s popular Bangladeshi street food restaurant, Chotpoti Lounge. The event was conducted by world-renowned chef and culinary artist Tommy Miah, who has long worked to promote Bangladesh’s rich food culture internationally.
Leaders of the Bangladeshi diaspora, distinguished guests, artists, cultural organisers, and journalists from across the UK attended the programme.
Guests said the event would introduce Bangladeshi culture and cinema to the younger generation living in the UK while strengthening global ties in the hospitality and film industries.
Members of the expatriate community described the colourful celebration as a historic moment for Bangladeshis in the UK.
