Police have arrested a man known as “Paitara Shahin”, 25, while he was attempting a mugging in the capital’s Rayerbazar area on Thursday night. A local sharp weapon was seized from his possession during the arrest.
The arrest took place in front of Sadek Khan Krishi Market during a police drive. Shahin was from Shibpur in Habiganj but had been living on rent at Mamtaz’s house in Premtola Goli, Rayerbazar.
Md Nazmul Hasan, sub-inspector (SI) of Rayerbazar police outpost under Mohammadpur Police Station, said, “Acting on a tip-off around 9:15pm, we learned that Paitara Shahin was standing in front of Sadek Khan Krishi Market with a locally made weapon, intending to commit a mugging.
“Police then conducted an operation and detained him. A sharp local weapon was recovered from his possession.”
He further said, “Multiple cases, including those related to mugging, are filed against Paitara Shahin with Mohammadpur Police Station. There are also several arrest warrants pending against him. He will be sent to court soon.”
