A BNP leader and president of Singhajhuli Union unit in Jashore was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka on Thursday evening.

The deceased was Abdul Majid, 60, a resident of Jamalta village under Chougachha upazila in Jashore.

The accident occurred around 5:30pm on Dutch-Bangla Road when Majid reportedly lost control of the motorcycle he was riding as a passenger.

He was immediately taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead at 7 pm.

Majid’s friend, Alamgir Hossain, said the group of four, traveling on two motorcycles, had been returning from a trip to the Cox’s Bazar–Rangamati region.

Majid was riding as a pillion on Alamgir’s motorcycle when he lost control and fell.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the death and said the body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination. Jatrabari Police Station has been notified of the incident.
