The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged the interim government to maintain neutrality and demanded the removal of any political party members from the government.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the statement to journalists, after a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday evening.
He added, “We have shared our concerns and urged the government to maintain complete neutrality. We have also called for the removal of any party-affiliated individuals within the government.”
When asked by reporters whether BNP leaders had raised concerns about any specific adviser, Mirza Fakhrul did not provide an answer.
Earlier, three BNP leaders visited the chief adviser’s residence. Along with Fakhrul, the delegation included the party’s Standing Committee members Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed. After the meeting, Fakhrul spoke to the media outside Jamuna.
When asked about the discussions during the meeting, he said, “We have emphasized the need for neutrality in police recruitment, especially for new appointments or promotions.
“We also raised concerns about the judiciary, particularly in higher courts, where we urged the removal of fascist elements and the appointment of impartial judges.”
Although this issue falls under the jurisdiction of the judiciary, Fakhrul mentioned that since the chief adviser is responsible for overseeing all matters in the country, these concerns were raised with him.
