Md. Mahfuz Alam, Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has emphasized the need to improve the production quality of government-subsidized films.
Speaking as the chief guest at a lab on guidelines for producing government-subsidized films for the fiscal year 2024-2025, held at Dhaka’s Information Building on Wednesday, Alam said, “The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will provide comprehensive support to enhance the quality of subsidized films.”
Highlighting the importance of skill development, Alam stated, “There is no alternative to developing the skills of film professionals to produce quality films.” He expressed hope that the insights shared by industry experts during the lab would enrich filmmakers, especially younger talent.
Alam also noted that while many countries have integrated management systems for film production, Bangladesh has yet to establish a similar structure. However, he expressed optimism that the upcoming Kabirpur Film City would provide a modern, integrated infrastructure for filmmaking.
Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mahbuba Farzana said, “This is the first lab organized with government-funded filmmakers at the initiative of the ministry.”
She added that such labs are essential to improving the quality of grant-supported films and urged filmmakers to apply the knowledge gained from the sessions to elevate their productions.
The lab on providing guidelines for film production aims to offer practical insights and strategies to enhance the overall standard of government-subsidized films in Bangladesh.
