Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been ruled out until after this month’s international break following a hamstring injury sustained during the Champions League defeat at Galatasaray.
The Brazil international was substituted in the 56th minute by Giorgi Mamardashvili in Istanbul, as Liverpool suffered their second consecutive defeat after beginning the season with seven straight wins across all competitions.
Manager Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that Alisson will not be available for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
“Alisson is not part of the squad tomorrow, and he will not be travelling to Brazil for the national team either,” Slot said.
The Dutch coach added that it was challenging to provide an exact timeline for the 33-year-old’s return.
“I would be surprised if he is fit for the first game after the international break. From there, recovery can sometimes be faster or slower,” he explained.
“It’s difficult to specify the number of days or weeks, but for the upcoming fixtures, he will not be available for us or the Brazil team.”
Slot also provided an update on forward Hugo Ekitike, who suffered a second-half injury against Galatasaray. The French striker trained on Friday and will be assessed ahead of Liverpool’s next matches.
Despite last week’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, Liverpool remain top of the Premier League, two points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
