Angry locals have blocked the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar since 9 am today demanding urgent measures to address the waterlogging crisis in the region.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway due to the blockage, creating widespread gridlock and hardship for passengers and pedestrians.
The protest took place near the Rajfulbaria bus stand in Savar, where residents have faced prolonged waterlogging issues in the Shobhapur area of Tetuljhora union. For several months, homes in the area have been submerged, and roads have been closed due to the flooding. The situation escalated today when local men and women decided to take action, blocking the highway and calling for immediate intervention from authorities.
Eyewitnesses reported severe traffic congestion in the area, stretching for several kilometers. Despite the presence of police at the scene, efforts to disperse the crowd and reopen the highway have so far been unsuccessful. Locals have remained resolute, continuing the protest and blocking the highway as of the latest reports. The situation has disrupted daily life for many in the area, affecting both residents and commuters.
Authorities are yet to address the demands of the protesters, while the public remains frustrated by the ongoing waterlogging crisis.
