The head teacher of Jujkhola Sammilito Bahumukhi High School in Pirojpur was critically injured after being attacked by a group of masked assailants on Tuesday evening.
The victim, Bipul Mitra, 50, sustained fractures in both legs and his right arm when 7–8 men on three to four motorcycles intercepted him near Jharjhariatala on the Pirojpur–Nazirpur road.
Assistant teacher Asim Kumar, 46, who was riding pillion on Bipul’s motorcycle, said the assault occurred around 5 pm when they were returning to Pirojpur town after school. “The attackers blocked our way and beat him mercilessly. At one point, they broke both his legs and his arm. I was also injured while trying to save him,” Asim said.
Locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and took them to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital.
Dr Ranjan Kumar, medical officer at the hospital, said Bipul had multiple fractures and was later referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. He is now admitted in critical condition at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR). Asim was released after receiving primary care.
Pirojpur Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Md Robiul Islam said police visited the scene. “No written complaint has been lodged yet. Legal action will be taken once a complaint is filed,” he said.
