A court has granted a one-day remand for two individuals in a case where seven people were injured in a stabbing attack after being asked to move away and smoke elsewhere in front of the Sohag Transport counter in Malibagh, Dhaka.
The accused sent on remand are Billal Hossain, the expelled president of Ward No 19 Volunteer Group under Ramna Thana, and Moniruzzaman Sikdar alias Bappi.
On Thursday, Metropolitan Magistrate Aowlad Hossain Mohammad Zonaid issued the order after hearing a police petition seeking a seven-day remand. The accused were arrested from Malibagh Bazar and Babubazar in the capital on September 6. The next day, the court ordered a two-day jail gate interrogation for them.
Case details reveal that, on September 4, Akash and Ruman were smoking in front of the Sohag Transport counter. When three employees of Sohag Transport asked them to move away and smoke elsewhere, they became agitated.
Later, led by the main accused Billal, others arrived with sharp weapons and broke the glass of the security guard’s room in front of the garage of the Sohag Transport owner’s house. At that time, brother of the company owner and director of the company, Ali Hasan Talukder, his driver Masud, and company employees Hasan Tapan, Farhad Hossain, Naimur Rahman Adib, and Masud, were indiscriminately attacked with sharp weapons and injured.
The attackers entered two counters of Sohag Transport and vandalised them, causing damage worth Tk5 lakh. They also looted Tk17,570 from ticket sales at the two counters.
Following the attack, Billal Hossain, the convener of Ward No. 19 Volunteer Group under Ramna Thana, was expelled from the group.
