The deadly dengue outbreak continues to claim lives in Bangladesh, with six more fatalities reported in the 24 hours till Thursday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the new fatalities, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh rose to 145 this year.
Among the latest deaths, three deaths were reported under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and one each in Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions, the DGHS confirmed.
In the same 24-hour period, 586 new patients were admitted to hospitals with dengue-related complications, bringing the total number of reported cases this year to 36,682.
As of Thursday, 746 dengue patients remain under treatment in hospitals across the country.
Among the newly reported cases, 144 (highest for the day) cases were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 103 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while 104 in Dhaka Division, 109 in Barishal Division, 58 in Chattogram Division, 44 in Rajshahi Division (outside of city corporations).
The DGHS noted that 55.2 per cent of the patients were men, while 44.8 per cent were women.
From January 1 to September 11, male patients accounted for 60.1 per cent of the total 36,682 infections, while female patients represented 39.9 per cent.
In 2024, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.
