Two people were killed and two others injured in separate mob attacks in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Wednesday morning, following suspicions of attempted mugging.

The first incidents took place in the Nabinagar Housing area around dawn, according to Mohammadpur police and hospital sources.

The deceased have been identified as Hanif, 22, and Sujon, 23. The injured Sharif, 22, and Faisal, 23, are currently receiving treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

According to Md. Ashraful Islam, Inspector (Operations) at Mohammadpur Police Station, the first incident occurred around 4am on Road 16 of Nabinagar Housing, where locals caught two individuals allegedly attempting a mugging. One man died at the scene due to a mob beating, while the other was critically injured.

A few hours later, at approximately 7:30am, a similar incident occurred on Road 11 of the same area, resulting in the death of another suspect and injuries to one more.

Both bodies were sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsy, police confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

Just two days earlier, on Monday, another man, Yamin, 23, was beaten to death by a mob in Chandrima Model Town in Mohammadpur over similar suspicions. Another individual, Fahim, was seriously injured in that incident and remains hospitalised.

That attack took place around 3:15pm along the riverside walkway on Road 12, adjacent to the Buriganga River. Responding to a call, police recovered the two injured men and took them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced Yamin dead.

Yamin hailed from Char Sokhina village, Lalmohan Upazila, Bhola district. He used to live Dhaka Udyan area.

In a separate case on August 17, Taufiqul Islam, also known as ‘Killer Babu’, 26, was beaten to death by a mob in Old Dhaka’s Lalbagh area, again on suspicion of being involved in criminal activity.
