Twenty-two job seekers were appointed to Dhaka Tax Zone-20 following the direct intervention of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
The move came after a report published in the Times of Bangladesh on Thursday. Taking the report into special consideration, the NBR chief instructed Tax Zone-20 to hold a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting within a day.
At the meeting, the DPC recommended 25 candidates. However, three of them had already joined other jobs, and appointment letters were subsequently issued to the remaining 22 candidates.
It is worth mentioning that Tax Zone-20 Commissioner Monwar Ahmed convened a recruitment committee meeting on Wednesday but left for Thailand without delegating his responsibility to another official, causing the hopes of 28 job seekers to be dashed.
The applicants, who had undergone a lengthy procedure of written examination and interview and had been waiting for a year, had missed out on the government job simply due to the commissioner’s irresponsibility.
Under the existing law, if the recruitment process was not completed by Thursday, the job seekers would no longer have been able to secure appointments.
Considering the urgency of the situation, the NBR chairman arranged a special DPC meeting on Thursday, which finally brought relief and happiness to the families of the 22 appointed candidates.
