Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, is still not fully recovered from his injuries, the party’s General Secretary Rashed Khan told reporters on Thursday.
He added that there are plans to take Nur abroad for further treatment sometime next week. Speaking at a press conference held around noon at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Rashed detailed the current condition of the former DUCSU VP, stating that although doctors have declared him out of immediate danger, Nur remains in a critical state.
“Nur’s nose has been disfigured. He cannot eat properly, is bleeding from the nose, and is unable to stand or walk without support,” said Rashed. “He frequently loses balance and falls, and he has to be assisted even to use the washroom. His brain is not functioning properly — he has suffered a head injury. Our health adviser has already started the process of arranging for treatment abroad.”
Rashed said, “We told the government yesterday during the protest rally that since the Jatiya Party is an ally of fascism and there was a plan to rehabilitate their politics around them and we have exposed their plans and spoken out against them.” He said, “As a result, Nur and over a hundred of our leaders and activists were attacked.”
Rashed also strongly criticised the lack of action against those responsible. “It has been six days since the attack, yet no action has been taken against the army and police personnel involved — despite the existence of clear video footage. This is a disgrace for the government.”
He further alleged that such an attack could not have taken place without direct approval from high-level authorities. “This could not have happened without the consent of the Home Affairs Adviser. We demand his immediate removal. Such a shameless and irresponsible person has no place in Bangladesh’s administration.”
