A massive fire tore through the kitchen market at Chandna Chowrasta in Gazipur city early Thursday, destroying several grocery shops before firefighters brought the flames under control after about an hour.
The fire broke out around 6:15am at the Chowrasta grocery market, quickly spreading to adjacent shops and structures, according to witnesses and Fire Service and Civil Defence officials.
Three units from Chandna Chowrasta Modern Fire Service arrived at the scene promptly, with two additional units from Gazipur joining the effort as the flames intensified, said Mohammad Mamun, Deputy Assistant Director of the Gazipur Fire Service.
The situation was brought under control around 7:20am, following a relentless effort by firefighters to contain the blaze.
