Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has instructed that Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur be sent abroad for better medical treatment.
The instruction came on Tuesday when Nur’s wife, Maria Akter, along with Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders Rashed Khan and Hasan Al Mamun met the chief adviser at State Guesthouse Jamuna in the capital.
Maria spoke in tears to the chief adviser about the critical health condition of Nurul Haque Nur, a key figure in the July Uprising. She said that Nur has suffered brain hemorrhage, a broken nose, and injuries to his jaw and spine in the brutal attack.
She further emphasised the necessity of taking Nur abroad for specialised treatment. In response, Prof Yunus immediately directed the health ministry to take necessary steps for Nur’s overseas treatment.
“We are all shocked by this incident. We’ve made all necessary arrangements for his proper medical care, and an independent judicial inquiry is being conducted into the incident,” the chief adviser stated.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Environment Adviser Rizwana Hasan and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan were present during the meeting.
Asif Nazrul said a committee, led by Justice Ali Reza, will be formed to investigate the attack. To this end, a gazette will be published on Wednesday, and the investigation will be completed within 15 days.
Nur was attacked and injured critically in a violent attack in Kakrail area of the capital on the night of August 29. He is now undergoing treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
