A violent confrontation between two rival factions in the Maugati area of Netrokona Sadar upazila claimed three lives late Saturday night, including a former Union Parishad (UP) member.
The victims have been identified as Dozahan Mia, a former UP member from Jamati village, along with Nur Mohammad and Rafique Mia.
According to Netrokona Sadar Police, tensions escalated around 11pm following an ongoing feud. Dozahan Mia was allegedly ambushed and brutally attacked with sharp weapons by rival supporters while on his way back from a BNP council programme.
In response to the killing, Dozahan’s associates reportedly launched a counterattack on their opponents’ residences, resulting in injuries to at least four individuals.
One of the injured died after being admitted to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital, while another passed away the following morning while receiving treatment.
Police said additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence and maintain order.
