A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on former lawmaker Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon and his wife Mehbuba Alam on charges of corruption.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The anti-graft body in its plea said a case has already been filed against the former lawmaker and his wife for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 1.26 crore, keeping those under their possession, making transactions through 28 bank accounts.

“For the sake of proper investigation, a travel ban should be imposed on them immediately,” the ACC plea said.

Meanwhile, the same court also ordered to attach huge movable and immovable properties and freeze bank accounts of the couple.

The court ordered to attach properties worth Tk 2.80 crore of Swapon and properties worth Tk 3.83 crore of Mehbuba.

The court also ordered to freeze Tk 2.22 crore belonging to the former lawmaker and Tk 15.63 lakh that was kept in bank in his daughter’s name.
