Nasum Ahmed’s unbeaten 21 off just 13 deliveries secured a dramatic four-wicket victory for Mohammedan Sporting Club over Gazi Group Cricketers in their penultimate Super League match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) in Mirpur on Saturday. His heroics ensured that the race for the title will be decided on the final day of the competition.

Chasing a target of 237, Mohammedan found themselves in trouble at 204 for 6 in the 47th over. However, a composed unbeaten partnership between Nasum and Mohammad Saifuddin, who contributed 30 not out off 55 balls, steered them home off the very last ball of the innings.

Needing 12 runs from the final over bowled by Sheikh Parvez Jibon, the task looked even steeper after a dot ball and a single that left Nasum on strike. The left-hander then cracked a four through deep square leg, survived a dot ball, and launched a six over mid-wicket to bring the scores level. He calmly took the winning single from the final delivery, sealing a memorable triumph for his side.

Mohammedan captain Towhid Hridoy, returning to action following a lengthy suspension, made an important contribution with 37 off 54 balls.

The victory lifted Mohammedan to 24 points, keeping them firmly in contention for a first DPL title since the 2009-10 season. They now face a winner-takes-all clash against current table-toppers Abahani Limited at the same venue on Tuesday.

Abahani remain ahead with 26 points following a convincing seven-wicket win over Legends of Rupganj earlier in the day at BKSP-4. Spinner duo Mosaddek Hossain (4-41) and Rakibul Hasan (3-41) were instrumental in restricting Rupganj to 225 for 9 after electing to field first.

In response, Parvez Hossain Emon (73) and Jishan Alam (63) powered Abahani to 226 for 3 in just 37.3 overs, ensuring a fourth successive Super League victory.

Elsewhere, Agrani Bank Cricket Club produced a dominant display, thrashing Gulshan Cricket Club by a massive 137 runs at BKSP-3.

The stage is now set for a thrilling finale, with the DPL crown hanging in the balance.
