Police have arrested four alleged members of the ‘Patali group’, a teen gang, in connection with the attempted murder of seven members of a family in Mohammadpur area of the capital. The incident of attempted murder took place on May 14.
The arrestees are – Hasan alias Patali Hasan, Farhad, Rafiq and Alamgir alias Forma Alamgir. A local lethal weapon has also been recovered from the arrestees.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), disclosed the development to the media Thursday.
He said that Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested four members of the ‘Patali group’ along with a lethal weapon in connection with the attempted murder of seven members of a family in Mohammadpur.
On May 14, at around 1:45am, members of the Patali group entered house 361/B at Ittadi Mor in Jafrabad of Mohammadpur and attempted to murder seven members of a same family with sharp weapon.
In this incident, Swapan, Sabbir, Rabbi, Kashem, Afzal, Fatema Begum and Mamun were injured, the official added.
According to family members, Rabbi confronted two youths, who were spotted wandering near the house.
As hated altercation broke out among them. At one point, the youths called their cohorts, allegedly part of a local teen gang, over phone and 10 to 15 individuals with sharp weapons stormed the house and hacked the family members indiscriminately before fleeing.
They reportedly cut the veins in Afzal’s hand and seriously injured seven members of his family. Later, all the injured were rescued and taken to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and other city hospitals.
