A large number of people staged protest in Netrakona on Tuesday against the derogatory remarks by NCP chief organiser Nasir Uddin Patwari about former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar.

Islamic scholars, students, and common people held a human chain on the road in front of the Boro Bazar Shahi Jame Mosque in the district.

During a recent district-level march, Nasir made comments, linking Babar to the case of 10-truck arms.

The hourlong human chain was presided over by Maulana Gazi Muhammad Abdur Rahim Ruhi, Central Assistant Secretary of Khilafat Andalon.

Addressing the protest programme, speakers strongly condemned the remarks.

They alleged that NCP leaders are traveling from a district to another under the guise of “marches,” but due to a lack of public support, they are resorting to disrespecting popular BNP leaders to undermine their reputation.

They demanded that Nasir immediately apologise to Babar and accused him of trying to destabilise the country and sabotage the election through such statements.

They further called for Nasir to apologise to the nation and be expelled from the party.

Otherwise, a tougher programme will be announced in protest against Nasir’s disparaging remarks, they warned.
