Chairman and independent director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Obayed Ullah-Al Masud has resigned from his post, citing personal reasons.
According Islami Bank sources, Obayed submitted his resignation to the bank’s board of directors on Thursday.
Meanwhile, after the fall of the Awami League government, Bangladesh Bank reconstituted the board of directors of Islami Bank on August 5.
At that time, Obayed Ullah was appointed as the chairman of the new five-member board.
His resignation comes three days after the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the anti-money laundering agency, on July 14, asked for the bank account details of Masud and his family members as part of a financial inquiry.
Earlier, Obayed served as the managing director of Sonali and Rupali Bank and the deputy managing director of Agrani Bank during the previous government.
