HRC Group Chairman Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury passes away

Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of HRC Group, passed away on Tuesday while receiving treatment at a Dhaka hospital. The news was confirmed by his personal secretary Md Sohel.

Chowdhury, the eldest son of Hedaet Hossain Chowdhury, founder of Karnaphuli Group, a noted educationist, language activist, and social worker—was also the elder brother of Saber Hossain Chowdhury, a prominent Awami League leader, Karnaphuli Group’s managing director, and chairman of Desh TV.

Under Chowdhury’s leadership, HRC Group significantly advanced Bangladesh’s tea industry, establishing the company as a key tea exporter and boosting the country’s global market presence.

Beyond tea, HRC Group ventured into multiple sectors, including tourism, shipbuilding, real estate, agriculture, transportation, and food processing. These ventures have not only supported economic growth but also created thousands of jobs in the country.

Chowdhury also contributed internationally, having served as the former Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Spain. His diplomatic role helped elevate Bangladesh’s profile in global business and investment circles.

In addition to his business success, Chowdhury was deeply involved in social causes. His work in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation earned him recognition both in Bangladesh and abroad.

Chowdhury is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and countless admirers. His family and the community mourn his passing.
