Shakib Khan made a promise months ago. Posting on social media, he wrote: “The Borbaad team is coming back. We will make history once again.”

Now, the team behind his Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 blockbuster is reuniting for Nissho, a new action-romance-revenge film targeting an Eid-ul-Fitr 2027 release. With the same star, director and producer back together, the question is whether they can recreate or surpass their previous success. The title itself adds another mystery: who will be left with nothing?

Shakib, director Mehedi Hassan Hridoy and producer Shahreen Akter Sumi are joining forces once again. Kolkata actress Idhika Paul is also expected to return opposite Shakib, marking their third film together. Shooting is scheduled to begin in the middle of this month.

Sumi confirmed to TIMES that Shakib would star in the film but declined to reveal details about the other cast members. A reliable source at production house Real Energy Production told TIMES that the Borbaad pairing of Shakib and Idhika would reunite for Nissho.

The title had been the subject of social media speculation, with both Nissho and Hyena circulating as possible names. Hridoy had earlier said the team would announce the title at the appropriate time. The mystery has now been settled. Shakib signed the film on the night of 2 July, shortly before leaving for the US.

Hridoy has previously said the film would present Shakib in a completely different way. Several other names have surfaced in casting discussions. Sabila Nur was among them, but Sumi had said the production house had no plans to cast her. She added that the full cast would be announced after the screenplay was completed. Later reports also mentioned Kolkata actor Nasir Uddin Khan alongside Idhika, although neither casting decision had been confirmed by the production house at the time.

Expectations are inevitably high after Borbaad. Released during Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, the film starred Shakib opposite Idhika, with Misha Sawdagor, Mamunur Rashid and Jisshu Sengupta also featuring. Nusraat Faria appeared in an item song. The filmmakers claim it earned more than Tk75 crore at the box office, setting a formidable benchmark for the reunion.

For Sumi, however, the stakes go beyond commercial expectations. In an interview after Borbaad’s release, she spoke about how producers receive a much smaller share of profits from big-budget films. Many leave the industry after making just one or two films because they fail to recover their investments. She also called for collective support to ensure producers make profits and help the Bangladeshi film industry move forward. Returning with another big-budget production, she now faces another significant investment test.

Shakib also has other projects in the pipeline. Rockstar, directed by Azman Rusho, was released during Eid-ul-Azha but failed to achieve significant commercial success. It became available on OTT platform Chorki from 22 July. He is also working on Soldier, directed by Shakeeb Fahad and planned for the next Eid-ul-Fitr, with some final shooting still pending.

With Soldier and Nissho in the Eid-ul-Fitr 2027 picture, Shakib is preparing for another busy big-screen run. The official title has settled one mystery, but the cast and story remain under wraps. Can the Borbaad team make history twice, or will its biggest challenge be living up to its own blockbuster?
