Banglalink has launched a Starlink-powered satellite-to-mobile service, allowing customers beyond the reach of conventional mobile networks to stay connected using a standard 4G handset and Banglalink SIM.

The operator said Bangladesh is the first country in South Asia to introduce the service.

Banglalink said the service could be particularly useful during natural disasters, emergencies and prolonged power outages, as well as for fishermen, people working at sea, travellers and communities in remote and coastal areas, including deep-sea locations within Bangladesh’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

Customers will be able to access essential apps and location services through the satellite network without requiring a specialised handset, according to the company.

Banglalink is offering Starlink internet at no additional cost with any internet or mixed bundle during the first month of launch.

From the second month, the service will remain available at no extra charge with selected monthly internet and mixed bundle packages. Customers will also receive five free SMS messages a month for use over the satellite network.

Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Johan Buse said the service was aimed at extending mobile access to places conventional networks could not reach.

“Connectivity is ultimately about people. It is about a family being able to hear from a loved one, a fisherman being able to send a message home, or someone in a remote area knowing they can still reach someone when they need help,” he said.

“With Satellite-to-Mobile, we are bringing connectivity to more people and more places across Bangladesh.”

The company said the service forms part of its effort to strengthen network resilience and extend digital services to remote and hard-to-reach areas.
