A worker was killed when an air-conditioner compressor exploded while he was working at a repair shop in the capital’s Nayapaltan area on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jibon Barman, 26, son of Sachindra Barman
The incident occurred around 10:30am at MI Engineering Plus, a refrigerator and air-conditioner repair shop on the ground floor of a building in Nayapaltan.
According to shop owner Biplab Chandra Das, Jibon had joined the shop only a few days ago.
He was alone at the shop when the compressor suddenly exploded, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 11:45am.
Jibon’s cousin Anik Barman said the family lives in Batpara Gopalpur village of Gaibandha Sadar upazila.
Mohammad Habibur Rahman, inspector-in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police at Paltan Police Station are investigating the incident, he added.
