A Rohingya man was injured in a landmine explosion inside Myanmar on Thursday afternoon in an area controlled by the Arakan Army (AA).

The injured man, identified as Hamid Hossain Sundari, later crossed into Bangladesh and was taken to a hospital with assistance from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents.

The blast occurred around 3:30pm in Myanmar, opposite the Palongkhali Border Outpost (BOP) area in Ukhiya , Cox’s Bazar.

Hamid, son of the late Kalam Hossain, is a resident of C-Block-27 of the registered Rohingya camp in Kutupalong.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Zahirul Islam, commander of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), confirmed the incident.

He said BGB personnel heard the sound of an explosion around 3:30pm inside Myanmar, about two kilometres north of border pillar BRM-19 and approximately 250 yards west of the zero line.

BGB later learned that Hamid had been injured in the blast.

“Hamid crossed into Bangladesh in an injured condition. With the assistance of BGB personnel and local residents, he was taken to the MSF hospital in Kutupalong for treatment,” Lt Col Zahirul Islam said.

Doctors at the hospital later referred him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment, he said.

More than 40 landmine explosions have reportedly occurred at different points along the Ukhiya, Teknaf and Naikhongchhari borders between 1 January 2025 and 1 October 2026.

According to BGB data, at least five people, including a BGB member, have been killed and more than 42 others injured or left disabled in the incidents.
