A 14-year-old schoolgirl died allegedly by hanging following a discord with her mother in the Sardarpara area of Shahbazpur Union under Jamalpur Sadar Upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Afrin Sultana, daughter of Abdul Aziz and a Class 9 student at Sabuj Kuri Laboratory School and College.
According to local residents, Afrin’s mother reprimanded her over some missing family money. Upset by the scolding, Afrin retreated to her room without the knowledge of her family members, where relatives later discovered her hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Najmus Sakib confirmed that the body has been sent to the morgue at Jamalpur General Hospital for an autopsy, adding that legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
