Sesame Street is heading to the big screen, with Netflix developing a new film based on the beloved preschool franchise as the streamer expands its children’s programming.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being developed by Netflix, Rideback and Sesame Workshop. Netflix has also extended its Sesame Street series deal through season 62. More episodes from season 57 will arrive on 23 November, while the CGI spinoff Mecha Builders is set to launch on 26 October.
Netflix is also expanding the world of Gabby’s Dollhouse with a new series, Doozie’s Doghouse. The show follows Doozie, Gabby’s little sister, who loves dogs while Gabby is known for her love of cats. Celestina Harris voices Doozie.
Doozie was first teased in Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie in 2025. The character later made her official debut in season 14 of Gabby’s Dollhouse.
Doozie’s Doghouse will premiere on Netflix on 9 November. The franchise will also expand with Gabby’s Dollhouse: Makers and Bakers, a four-episode holiday series hosted by Laila Lockhart Kraner as Gabby. More episodes will follow in 2027.
Netflix’s upcoming preschool slate also includes Puppy Pirates. The series follows four heroic dogs who sail the high seas in search of lost items.
The streamer is also preparing new games based on KPop Demon Hunters, Trash Truck, Numberblocks and Danny Go!. More seasons of Bad Dinosaurs are also on the way.
Netflix has also launched a “low-stimulation collection” for children with unique needs. It features shows and films with slower pacing, softer visuals and simple, predictable stories. The collection includes titles from the worlds of Trash Truck, Puffin Rock and Llama Llama.
Children’s and family programming accounted for 15 per cent of Netflix’s total viewing hours in the first half of 2026, according to the streamer. Other notable preschool titles on the platform include Ms. Rachel, Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs and The Creature Cases.
“We’re curating a slate of favourite-worthy series, films, and games to serve kids at every age and stage of their development,” said Heather Tilert, Netflix’s vice-president of Animation Series, Kids + Preschool.
She said the streamer wants to give children a place filled with “great stories, beloved characters, and enriching games” that they will want to return to.
With Sesame Street, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Puppy Pirates and other new projects, Netflix is continuing to expand its preschool offering across series, films and games.
