Imranur Rahman has secured a place in the men’s 100 m semi-finals at the Asian Games despite falling short of his personal and season’s best times.
Bangladesh’s fastest man clocked 10.49 seconds in the fifth heat, finishing fourth among seven runners. The top three from each heat progressed automatically, while the six fastest runners outside those positions also advanced.
Imranur’s time was enough to earn one of those six additional semi-final places. He finished 22nd overall among the 24 qualifiers.
Maldives sprinter Hassan Saeed, regarded as South Asia’s fastest man, also competed in the same heat. Imranur was drawn in lane five, while the Chinese Taipei runner who finished third posted 10.38 seconds.
The Bangladeshi sprinter arrived in the competition with a career-best of 10.11 seconds and a season’s best of 10.24 seconds but could not match either mark in his opening race.
Nevertheless, his 10.49-second run was enough to keep his Asian Games campaign alive, with the semi-finals now awaiting Bangladesh’s fastest man.
