bKash customers can now grow a virtual tree through everyday digital transactions, which bKash will match with a real tree planted on their behalf.
A total of 25,000 trees will be planted in the 24 Infantry Division of Chattogram Cantonment, maintained from plantation to growth by Mission Green Bangladesh, said a press release on Thursday.
The initiative was inaugurated on Wednesday by planting trees at Chattogram Cantonment.
Major General Ferdous Hasan Selim, 24 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chattogram Cantonment, inaugurated the tree plantation and unveiled a plaque.
Major general Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer, bKash, and senior officials were present there.
Users earn “green points” through low-carbon actions such as paying utility bills, opening a DPS, adding money, availing a loan, recharging a mobile or sending money through the bKash app.
As green points accumulate, a virtual sapling grows into a tree within the user’s bKash Forest in the app.
Once the required points are earned and the virtual tree reaches maturity, bKash plants a corresponding tree in the real world. Users can view updates about the real tree through the app.
bKash said this is the first mobile financial app-based initiative for ecological protection in the country.
