Nawazuddin Siddiqui once found himself at the centre of a major controversy after revealing details of his relationship with actress Niharika Singh in his memoir ‘An Ordinary Life’.
According to News 18, the actor had worked with Singh in the 2012 film ‘Miss Lovely’. In his memoir, Siddiqui wrote about their relationship and included intimate details of their time together.
However, Singh later disputed parts of his account and said their relationship had lasted only a few months. She also alleged that Siddiqui had not told her that he was married when they became involved.
Singh criticised the actor for discussing their private relationship without her consent. She accused him of presenting a distorted version of their relationship and suggested that he had used the episode to generate interest in his book.
The controversy intensified shortly after the memoir was published in 2017. Reports said a complaint was filed over the revelations concerning Singh, further increasing pressure on Siddiqui.
The actor subsequently apologised for the controversy and announced that he would withdraw ‘An Ordinary Life’.
“I am apologising to everyone who’s sentiments are hurt because of the chaos around my memoir ‘An Ordinary Life’. I hereby regret and decide to withdraw my book,” Siddiqui said at the time.
The memoir had also discussed Siddiqui’s relationships with other women, including television actor Sunita Rajwar. The revelations became the most controversial part of a book that was otherwise intended to chronicle his journey from a small-town background to becoming an acclaimed Bollywood actor.
A year after withdrawing the book, Siddiqui said he regretted writing the sections that had caused the controversy. He explained that his original intention had been to share his struggles and inspire people from small towns who aspired to build careers in the film industry.
The episode ultimately overshadowed the memoir’s account of Siddiqui’s rise in the industry, while his decision to withdraw the book brought the controversy to an end.
