Professor Md Kamrul Hossain of the Department of Chemistry has been appointed proctor of Chittagong University (CU) for one year.
The university issued an office order to this effect from the Registrar’s Office on Tuesday, saying his appointment will take effect from 23 September.
Prof Kamrul has been serving as an assistant proctor since 31 March.
He will now perform the duties of proctor in addition to his regular responsibilities and will receive the allowances and other benefits applicable under university rules.
Confirming the appointment, CU Acting Registrar Md Hachan Mia said the appointment letter had been issued for a one-year term.
Prof Kamrul said maintaining peace and discipline on campus and ensuring a conducive academic environment would be among his priorities.
“I will work to maintain peace and discipline at the university, keep the campus functioning smoothly and ensure a healthy environment for academic activities,” he said.
He also sought cooperation from teachers, students, journalists and other stakeholders to maintain a normal atmosphere on campus.
“We expect the overall cooperation of everyone associated with the university. We will also make our utmost efforts to maintain a normal environment on campus,” he added.
