Around 3,000 students from 100 educational institutions, 88 clubs and nearly 50 regional platforms took part in a four-day environment festival at BRAC University (BRACU) in Dhaka, which concluded on Friday.
Titled Green Genesis 2026, the festival aimed to raise awareness about climate change, conservation and sustainability among school, college and university students from across Bangladesh, said a press release on Sunday.
The festival featured writing and public speaking competitions, art, photography and videography contests, diorama creation and research and communication workshops.
These engagements were designed to foster creativity, leadership, innovative thinking and practical solutions to environmental challenges. Prizes, certificates and awards were presented to participants to recognise their achievements, inspire continued engagement and promote a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
The event was organised by the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) and the Outreach Team of BRACU in collaboration with the platform Youth for a Green Earth. Co-organisers included the BRAC University Leadership Development Forum, BRAC University Environment Club, BRAC University Community Service Club and BRAC University Natural Sciences Club.
The workshops were led by C3ER Director Golam Rabbani, Office of Communications Director Khairul Bashar, Prothom Alo Digital Content Lead Khairul Babui, C3ER Assistant Director Sharmin Nahar Nipa and BRACU alumnus Srijan Banik. Golam Rabbani also gave a keynote presentation on climate change and environmental challenges titled “Green Genesis Inspiration”.
ACI Motors sponsored the event, while Prothom Alo served as the digital partner. The initiative helped advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
