Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday is already making a major impact at the box office, despite being more than three months away from its release. The highly anticipated superhero film has crossed $50 million in domestic advance ticket sales.
According to Variety, Disney has reported that more than 70% of the advance sales are for Infinity Vision screenings. The premium large-format certification is a new offering from the studio, unveiled at CinemaCon as a format designed to provide “the biggest, brightest and most immersive cinematic experiences” for audiences.
Walt Disney Company senior executive vice-president and chief financial officer Hugh Johnston announced the figures on Wednesday at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on 18 December.
Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film, which brings together a huge line-up of Marvel superheroes. The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and the original X-Men unite to face Victor Von Doom, their most formidable threat yet.
Robert Downey Jr returns to the MCU as Doom after Tony Stark/Iron Man died at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Chris Evans also returns as Steve Rogers/Captain America after travelling back in time and stepping away from his superhero duties in Endgame.
Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, alongside Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.
The film also marks the official MCU return of several stars from Fox’s X-Men franchise following Disney’s acquisition of the studio. Patrick Stewart returns as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
The cast of Fantastic Four: First Steps also returns. Pedro Pascal plays Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach the Thing.
The Thunderbolts cast is also back, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Wyatt Russell as US Agent and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost.
Marvel has also launched the Countdown to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Official Podcast ahead of the film’s release. The series revisits five films from the Infinity Saga, beginning with The Avengers on 27 August, followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron on 3 September, Captain America: Civil War on 10 September, Avengers: Infinity War on 17 September and Avengers: Endgame on 24 September.
All five films are available to stream on Disney+. The podcast’s fifth episode will coincide with the 25 September 2026 theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame: Encore.
