A Paris court has heard fresh details of the violent robbery that left Gianluigi Donnarumma and his pregnant partner traumatised after four men broke into their home in 2023.
The incident happened while Donnarumma was playing for Paris Saint-Germain. The Italy international and Alessia Elefante, who is now his wife, were asleep at their flat on Avenue Montaigne when the attackers entered.
Police believe the group gained access by climbing to the roof with a ladder before making their way down to a balcony and breaking through the windows.
Donnarumma told investigators that he was struck in the face with a knuckle duster and threatened with a knife. He was also tied up as the robbers searched the property.
Their haul included watches, jewellery, handbags and cash. They also took the keys to a Mercedes and a Lamborghini.
Elefante was forced to deal with the attackers while they demanded the code to a safe. She told police she did not know the code and that the safe contained nothing. Her refusal reportedly angered the robbers.
“They got angry thinking that I was lying,” Elefante said. She claimed one attacker pulled her hair while another hit her on the thighs, despite being told that she was pregnant.
Donnarumma later gave them the safe code, only for the robbers to find it empty.
The two-day hearing has also shed light on the alleged organisation behind the raid. Prosecutors believe Ilyas Kherbouch and Khyan Mamouni arranged the robbery from prison. Both men deny the accusations.
Kherbouch, who escaped from prison earlier this year before being caught after 13 days, was involved in a confrontation with police at the start of the trial after officers ordered his brother to leave the courtroom.
Two other suspects were minors when the robbery took place and were later sentenced to three and four years in prison by a children’s court. Another suspect, who admitted involvement but claimed he had been pressured by the others, died by suicide in prison in 2024.
Moktar Diop has also admitted taking part in the robbery but is not accused of using violence.
The criminal proceedings are ongoing.
