Police recovered the hanging body of a housewife from a residence in the capital’s Lalbagh area on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Touhida Hossain Tisha, 30. She lived in a fifth-floor apartment on PC Das Street Lane alongside her husband, Monir Hossain-a Pathao rider-and their two children.
Law enforcement officers recovered the body at around 2:30pm on Wednesday and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy.
According to Lalbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Belayet Hossain, Tisha and her husband had an altercation over a family matter earlier that morning.
Following the dispute, Tisha reportedly hanged herself using a rope attached to a ceiling fan inside her room during the afternoon.
Relatives spotted her body and immediately informed the police. Officers subsequently arrived at the residence and found the housewife hanging.
“Police initially suspected that the woman had died by suicide, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is released,” the official said.
