India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh has been postponed by more than a year, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreeing to reschedule the series for September 2026.

The tour, which was initially set for august 2025, included three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals. In a joint statement issued on 5 July, the BCCI confirmed that the decision had been reached following discussions between the two boards.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series—three ODIs and three T20Is—originally scheduled for august 2025 to september 2026,” the statement read.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in september 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course.”

The postponement follows weeks of speculation, as the tour was part of the ICC Future Tours Programme and had been due to start on 17 august in Dhaka.

Although the official statement cited scheduling concerns, the decision comes against a backdrop of rising diplomatic tension between the two nations. The political unrest in Bangladesh, which led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in august 2024, has raised questions over logistical and security arrangements for high-profile events such as this.

India and Bangladesh last met in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India secured a six-wicket win. Their last bilateral series took place in 2024 in India, with the hosts winning both the two-match Test series and the three-match T20I series by 2-0 and 3-0 margins respectively.
