Fans of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara may finally get another chance to see Arjun, Kabir and Imran together, as director Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that she is working on a possible sequel with writer-producer Reema Kagti, writes ET Now.
The filmmaker, however, clarified that the project has not been officially greenlit yet.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Zoya said the team is developing the idea but wants to ensure they have a story that genuinely deserves a second chapter.
For Zoya, the key question is what the lives of the three friends would look like 15 years after their unforgettable trip across Spain.
Released in 2011, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara followed Arjun, Kabir and Imran, played by Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar, as they travelled through Spain for Kabir’s bachelor trip.
The journey soon became much more than a holiday.
Each friend was forced to confront personal fears, relationships and unresolved issues, while their friendship was tested along the way.
A sequel would therefore have to acknowledge the passage of time and show how the characters have evolved since their first adventure.
Rather than returning simply to satisfy audience demand, Zoya and Reema are looking for a story that feels meaningful and organic.
Speculation about a sequel grew in 2025 after Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol appeared together in a commercial.
Seeing the three actors reunited immediately reminded fans of their beloved characters and sparked fresh calls for a sequel.
The commercial did not confirm a second film, but it showed just how much interest remains in seeing the trio share the screen again.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has remained a favourite among audiences for its portrayal of friendship, love, family expectations and the courage to step outside one’s comfort zone.
The film’s Spanish locations, memorable soundtrack and performances helped it become one of Bollywood’s most enduring friendship dramas.
More than a decade later, the possibility of revisiting the characters has naturally generated excitement among fans.
During the same conversation, Zoya also addressed criticism surrounding the affluent backgrounds of characters in films such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do.
She has maintained that stories about privileged characters can still explore universal emotional conflicts and personal struggles.
For the filmmaker, the focus is on the experiences and relationships within the story rather than simply the characters’ financial circumstances.
For now, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 remains in development. There is no confirmed cast announcement, shooting schedule or release date.
However, Zoya and Reema actively working on the story gives fans their strongest reason yet to hope that Arjun, Kabir and Imran could eventually reunite for another unforgettable journey.
