Three people, including two women, were beaten to death by an angry mob on suspicion of drug dealing in the Koribari area of Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla early Thursday.
Another woman was critically injured in the incident, said Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman.
They deceased identified as Rubi Begum, 58, her son Rasel, 35, and daughter Jonaki Akter, 28, said sub-inspector Md Nahid of Bangrabazar Police Station.
The injured woman, Ruma, has been hospitalised in critical condition.
Mahfuzur Rahman said villagers alleged that the trio have long been involved in drug trading.
A group of villagers beat them up this morning, leaving them dead, he said, adding that they are investigating the incident.
“We rushed to the spot upon receiving information and found three bodies lying inside the house. All the deceased are members of the same family,” said OC Mahfuzur Rahman.
The OC confirmed that police have recovered the bodies.
