Bangladesh batter Parvez Hossain Emon made a brisk start but failed to convert it into a big score as Lahore Qalandars slumped to a 53-run defeat against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League on Sunday.
Chasing 165 at Providence Stadium, Lahore lost Mohammad Naeem with the second ball of the innings before Shamil Hossain followed in the next over. The early setbacks brought Parvez to the crease with the innings already under pressure.
The left-hander began cautiously, scoring seven runs from his first seven deliveries. He then shifted gears with back-to-back boundaries off Matthew Forde before launching a clean six over long-on to keep Lahore in the chase.
His counterattack ended on 21 from 13 balls. Romario Shepherd bowled him after Parvez failed to connect with an attempted shot to the leg side against a delivery angled in from around the wicket.
Abdullah Shafique also scored 21 from 13 balls, while Farhan Yousuf made 28 from 19 deliveries. None of the remaining batters produced a meaningful contribution as Lahore were bowled out well short of the target.
Earlier, Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave Guyana the perfect platform with 65 from 35 balls. He shared a 72-run partnership for the second wicket with Mohammad Haris, who scored 34 from 28 deliveries.
Guyana lost momentum after reaching 107 for one in the 10th over. They then lost six wickets for just 25 runs before Romario Shepherd’s unbeaten 29 from 12 balls lifted them to 164 for eight.
Michael Bracewell claimed two wickets for 18 runs for Lahore, while Mehran Mumtaz also picked up two wickets.
Parvez had scored 47 from 33 balls against Desert Vipers in Lahore’s previous match. However, his latest cameo again proved too short to prevent defeat.
