Model and actress Snigdha Chowdhury has filed a case alleging that she was physically assaulted after being lured to a hospital with the promise of signing an advertising contract.
The case was filed at Khilkhet Police Station in Dhaka on Sunday (26 July).
According to the complaint, Snigdha was invited to the hospital to sign an agreement for an advertisement. She alleged that she faced physical assault after reaching the location.
The actress said she initially decided against taking legal action, fearing that the incident could affect her personal life. However, she later filed the case, hoping to seek justice.
In her complaint, Snigdha alleged that Ashiyan Group Chairman Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan mistook her for another woman, Zeba Takiya, and became angry.
She further alleged that a person identified as Iman did not try to calm the situation and instead signalled her to accept the mistaken identity.
According to Snigdha, the chairman believed that Zeba Takiya had previously cheated him and misappropriated money, and that he assaulted her because of that misunderstanding.
Describing the alleged incident, Snigdha claimed that the accused tied her hands and feet with rope, threw away her phone, grabbed her by the throat and assaulted her.
She alleged that she was left alone in the room after others were asked to leave.
“They tied my hands and feet, threw away my phone, grabbed me by the throat and assaulted me,” Snigdha claimed.
She further alleged that when she pleaded with the accused, reminding him that he had children, he pulled her hair and kicked her repeatedly, leaving visible injuries on her body.
Showing her injuries, the actress said her parents had never physically harmed her, but she was allegedly assaulted during the incident.
Following the complaint, police launched multiple operations to arrest Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan, the only accused named in the case.
Khilkhet Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sohrab Al Hossain told TIMES of Bangladesh on Monday afternoon that several police teams were working to arrest him.
“Police have conducted several operations but have not found him yet. The operations are continuing,” the OC said.
Meanwhile, Snigdha told TIMES that she feels unsafe and has been receiving death threats regularly.
She alleged that police have not provided her with any support. “If anything happens to me, Ashiyan Group and Nazrul Islam will be responsible,” she claimed.
Snigdha has also accused Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan of subjecting her to two hours of alleged physical torture after pressuring her for marriage and failing to get her consent. She described the alleged incident as an “Epstein-style” abuse.
She further alleged that model coordinator Emon, who was with her at the time, was also physically assaulted and that his toenails were pulled out during the alleged incident.
The allegations have been made against Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan, chairman of Ashiyan Group and Ashiyan Lands Development Limited.
Snigdha Chowdhury began her entertainment career as a model in 2018. She recently made her big-screen debut with the Eid release “Pressure Cooker.”
