Biman Bangladesh Airlines has resumed direct flights on Dhaka–Narita route after a suspension of more than a year. Flight BG 376 departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) for Japan at 2:25am on 27 July.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Dhaka–Narita route at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Monday, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam said that there is no question of suspending the Dhaka-Narita route again.
She expressed hope that the service would be profitable. Bookings for the inaugural, return, and subsequent flights have already been completed, she added.
The minister also said the government would not suspend any international routes in the future, adding that new services would be launched based on passenger demand and commercial potential. She said the resumed route is expected to strengthen Bangladesh-Japan ties by creating new opportunities for investment, trade, and educational cooperation.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat said Biman will add Airbus aircraft alongside its Boeing fleet to meet future demand, with the government aiming to expand the national carrier’s fleet to 50 aircraft by 2034.
The Dhaka–Narita route was suspended on 1 July 2025 after being deemed unprofitable and has now resumed operations following a suspension of more than a year.
