Legendary singer Runa Laila will perform her first-ever solo concert at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy this evening, marking another milestone in her illustrious 62-year professional music career.
The concert will take place at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where the celebrated artiste will perform 10 songs from her distinguished musical journey.
Runa Laila recently returned to Bangladesh after spending more than a month in the United States on family matters. Since her return, she has been preparing for the concert.
Although she has performed at the academy two or three times during her career, this will be her first solo concert at the venue.
Speaking about the event, Runa Laila said, “Such initiatives are important to introduce our long musical journey, songs and memories to the younger generation of listeners. I will try to perform some of the audience’s favourite songs. In my 62-year professional music career, I have performed at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy only two or three times. However, this is my first solo concert here. I hope it will be a beautiful and memorable evening with the audience.”
The organisers said the concert will feature 10 timeless and audience-favourite songs spanning her 62-year career. The programme has been curated with some of her most iconic songs from different periods of her musical journey.
In addition to the performance, Runa Laila will receive a special honour at the event.
The organisers also said proceeds from ticket sales will be used to support flood-affected people. According to the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, all ticket sale proceeds will be donated to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for flood victims.
The academy previously organised similar events featuring legendary singers Sabina Yasmin and Syed Abdul Hadi.
After the concert, Runa Laila will resume her international commitments. She is scheduled to visit Australia later this month, where she will perform at several concerts for Bangla-speaking audiences living abroad.
