Bethesda’s latest update on its future plans has sparked mixed reactions among Fallout fans, with many debating what lies ahead for Fallout 5 after the studio signalled a stronger focus on its biggest gaming franchises.
According to ScreenRant, the discussion gained momentum after an internal letter from Bethesda executive Jill Braff, obtained by IGN, addressed the recent wave of Xbox layoffs and outlined the company’s future direction.
In the letter, Braff acknowledged the uncertainty created by the layoffs, saying many employees across Bethesda’s global organisation had been affected. She added that the company would now focus on its strongest franchises and shape a content roadmap that best serves both players and the studio.
The update quickly divided the Fallout community. Some fans welcomed the renewed emphasis on established series, while others questioned the studio’s long-term creative direction following the mixed response to Starfield.
One fan argued that it may be time for new leadership, saying Starfield marked the end of an era and calling for fresh creative talent to lead future projects.
Others defended Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard, saying replacing him could delay development further and weaken the studio’s projects. Some also noted his long-standing support for the modding community, which they believe remains an important part of Bethesda’s identity.
Several fans felt the announcement simply confirmed the studio’s expected path after Starfield. They argued Bethesda was always likely to concentrate on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, given the reception to its newest original franchise.
