NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has criticised the government’s response to the worsening flood situation in Chattogram, saying relief and support efforts for affected people are not sufficient.
He made the remarks while visiting flood-hit areas and distributing relief materials in Anwara upazila on Sunday.
“The government’s efforts are not enough. The crisis could have been handled in a better way,” Nahid said, adding that although local administration and disaster management authorities were taking some measures, people were yet to see a visible role from ministers and state ministers of the region.
During his visit to Raipur Dobhashi Bazar area in Anwara, Nahid spoke with local residents and said a flood protection embankment planned for the area had received allocation but was never constructed.

“Because of this, even light rainfall is causing waterlogging and creating public suffering,” he said.
Nahid also said the actual situation on the ground and the difficulties faced by flood-affected people were not being adequately reported by national media outlets.
“We urge the media to highlight where people are stranded and where assistance has not reached. Accurate information will help us reach people more quickly,” he said.
NCP leader reached Chattogram around 11:30am as part of his scheduled visit.
After distributing relief materials in Anwara, he visited Chhanua in Banshkhali and later distributed aid at Kanchana Phultala in Satkania.
He was scheduled to travel to Patiya Madrasa after completing his relief activities.
NCP’s southern region chief organiser Hasnat Abdullah accompanied him during the visit.
