Police have recovered a bomb-like object from a house in Chargoal village under Gangni Upazila of Meherpur.
Members of the Kumaridanga Police Camp recovered the suspicious object around 1:00am on Thursday night and carried out an initial neutralisation process before moving it to a secure location.
According to police and local residents, family members of Zahidul Islam, a resident of Chargoal village, found the object wrapped in red scotch tape inside their house. Suspecting it to be a bomb, they informed police.
After receiving the information, officers from the Kumaridanga Police Camp rushed to the spot and carefully recovered the object. They initially placed it in a container filled with water and sand to neutralise it before taking it to a safe place.
Police said preliminary investigations suggested that miscreants might have left the object at the house to create panic or for another motive. However, authorities are yet to confirm whether it was an active explosive device.
Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahaddis Morshed Chowdhury said the matter was being investigated with priority.
He said police were trying to identify those who placed the object and determine their motive. Legal action would be taken against those found involved, he added.
