Prime Video has announced that its upcoming Hindi original series Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, starring Kay Kay Menon, will premiere worldwide on 24 July. The seven-episode comedy-drama follows the journey of a headmaster determined to revive one of the city’s most underperforming schools.
According to Deadline, the series is directed by Himank Gaur and created and executive produced by Biswapati Sarkar and Sameer Saxena under their Posham Pa Pictures banner. Sarkar co-wrote the series with Akshay Asthana, Nupur Pai, Tatsat Pandey and Meghna Srivastava.
Menon stars as Gyaneshwar Tripathi, a laid-back headmaster whose ambition to secure a government-sponsored training programme in Cambridge unexpectedly leads him to transform his struggling school. Along the way, he assembles an unlikely team of teachers and confronts disruptive classrooms, limited resources, indifferent parents and bureaucratic hurdles.
The ensemble cast also features Archana Puran Singh, Naveen Kasturia, Prasanna Bisht, Abhimanyu Singh, Deven Bhojani, Ajitesh Gupta, Annapurna Soni and Prachee Shah.
Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals at Prime Video India, described the series as a heartfelt comedy that captures the contradictions of the education system while celebrating the determination of the people who keep it running. He said the story blends humour with emotion through the creative vision of Biswapati Sarkar, Sameer Saxena, Himank Gaur and the rest of the team.
Reflecting on the project’s origins, Sarkar and Saxena said the story grew from the idea of portraying a school that appears to be failing by every measurable standard but continues to survive because of the commitment of its teachers and students. They said the series explores the humour, absurdity and daily challenges of life inside a dysfunctional school while celebrating resilience and hope. They also praised Menon’s performance, describing Gyaneshwar as an unconventional protagonist whose journey is both entertaining and deeply moving.
Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya joins Prime Video’s growing slate of Indian originals, which includes Panchayat, Mirzapur, The Family Man and Jubilee.
