The screening of FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on big screens across the Dhaka University (DU) campus has been temporarily suspended today, Tuesday, due to adverse weather conditions.
According to a press release issued by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Sports Secretary (DU unit) Md Saifullah, and Athlete Sports Gear CEO Md Sejan Mahmud, the screenings will remain suspended until the weather normalises.
If conditions improve, the broadcast is expected to resume at all venues from Wednesday.
The initiative, undertaken by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, is being held with the overall cooperation of the DU unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and managed by Athlete Sports Gear.
Matches are regularly screened at five specific venues: the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall playground, Kavi Jasimuddin Hall playground, Jagannath Hall prayer hall, and Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall playground.
The organisers noted that the screenings have drawn massive crowds since the beginning of the World Cup, with “high-voltage” matches witnessing an overwhelming influx of spectators.
