Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain MP has issued a strict warning against irregularities in the healthcare sector, saying that officials found guilty of negligence or corruption will face termination rather than administrative transfers.
“I do not believe in transfers or postings. Where there is negligence and corruption, there will be dismissal from service,” minister said while speaking as the chief guest at the 31st Annual General Meeting of the Narsingdi Diabetic Association on Saturday.
He stressed a zero-tolerance stance on bribery and corruption, urging healthcare professionals to carry out their duties with integrity. The minister also said the government plans to launch a “revolution” in the health sector this year through a series of initiatives aimed at improving public services and enhancing Bangladesh’s global standing.
As part of the ministry’s reform agenda, Sakhawat outlined several infrastructure development plans. He said 50-bed dialysis centres would be established at all medical college hospitals across the country to expand renal care services.
He further said union-level community clinics would be renovated and modernised, alongside the recruitment of additional doctors and healthcare workers to strengthen local-level health services. Existing family planning centres, he added, would also be upgraded to improve service delivery.
Referring to the national budget, the minister described the current allocation as a “budget of ideals” rather than merely a financial statement, pledging full transparency in its implementation and a corruption-free execution process.
The programme was held at the Narsingdi Shishu Academy auditorium and was presided over by Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner and President of the Diabetic Association Ishrat Jahan Kia.
The event was inaugurated by Khairul Kabir Khokon MP (Narsingdi-1). Other attendees included Manzur Elahi MP (Narsingdi-3), Ashraf Uddin Bakul MP (Narsingdi-5), and District Council Chairman Tofazzal Hossain, along with members of the Narsingdi Diabetic Association.
