Deltaport Footwear Limited, a venture of Italian and Irish investors, will invest US$21.60 million to establish a footwear manufacturing facility at the BEPZA Economic Zone in Mirsharai, Chattogram, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) said in a press release.

The land lease agreement for the project was signed on 30 June 2026 at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka, marking another addition to foreign investment in the export processing zone, according to the authority.

The company will manufacture a range of footwear products and is expected to generate annual export earnings of about US$37.5 million, targeting markets in Italy, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Colombia.

Once fully operational, the plant is expected to employ 468 Bangladeshi workers and produce around 3 million pairs of injected, cemented, casual, formal, ladies and safety shoes annually.

The agreement was signed by Md Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Investment Promotion), on behalf of BEPZA, and Junaid Iqbal Umerani, Chief Executive Officer of Deltaport Footwear Limited, on behalf of the company. Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, ndc, afwc, psc, G, MPhil witnessed the signing ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Moazzem Hossain said BEPZA continues to improve infrastructure, services and investment facilities to create a more business-friendly environment, adding that the project would strengthen export competitiveness and create employment opportunities.

Umerani said this was the company’s third investment in Bangladesh, all within BEPZA zones, adding that Bangladesh remained the most attractive destination compared to alternatives such as India and Vietnam due to its investment environment and operational experience.

He added that since the company’s first investment through Eastport Limited at Cumilla EPZ in 2013, its experience with BEPZA had strengthened confidence, leading to further expansion through the new project.

Other officials present included Abdullah Al Mamun, Member (Engineering), A N M Foyzul Haque, Member (Finance), Samir Biswas, Executive Director (Administration), A S M Anwar Parvez, Executive Director (Public Relations), senior BEPZA officials, and Uttam Kumar Talukdar, representative of Deltaport Footwear.
